The ac disconnect is used to separate the inverter from the electrical grid.

An ac disconnect shuts off the current between the inverter and the ac power grid. Disconnect the wires connecting the solar panel to the solar power system by loosening the bolts or screws holding the solar power wires in place. A dc disconnect shuts off the current from the panels to the inverter.
